About Summit Journal

Summit magazine, founded in 1955, was a key American publication on mountaineering and rock climbing. It provided technical information, personal stories, and photographic essays, and was respected for its adventurous spirit and focus on climbing. Featuring articles by renowned climbers, it inspired and informed the climbing community despite its small circulation. Summit ceased publication in 1989, leaving a significant legacy in the climbing world.
In 2023, Summit was revived as Summit Journal, a biannual, print-only magazine of archival quality, dedicated to long-form narratives and large-format photography. The inaugural issue, Summit's first release in over 27 years, came out in February 2024.
